A hanging cluster is often a swarm
In spring a colony splits. A queen leaves with a crowd and hangs on a branch, a fence, or a mailbox while scouts look for a cavity. It looks like an emergency. It is often a colony in transit. Stay back. Do not spray. Do not hose it. Do not hit it with a broom.
Once queen cells are capped, it is nearly impossible to stop the attempt. Combinations work better than one trick.
Branch versus wall
The hanging cluster is quiet compared with a hive you have kicked. Bees packed on bees. A few scouts coming and going. They are house-hunting. They may move in hours. They may stay a day. A colony already in a soffit, a meter box, or a wall void is a different job. Florida points that work to a registered beekeeper or a trained pest control operator. FDACS keeps the removal and eradication path. The property owner is responsible for an unwanted colony in a building. Do not open the wall with a crowbar to see.

If you already keep boxes

Africanized bees, in one minute
Africanized honey bees are in Florida. They can look like any other honey bee on a branch. Defensive colonies get worse if you stand there and swat. The move is the same move. Back up. Should I spray a hanging ball so it leaves?
No. Stay back. Do not spray. Start at the UF club list or FDACS if the cluster is on a play structure or already in a wall.
Is a swarm on a branch the same as bees in a soffit?
No. A hanging cluster is in transit. A wall colony is already home. FDACS names who may remove or eradicate a structure nest.
